STC#SA00484WI-Front Seat Shoulder Harness

Monday, July 28th, 2008

Back in the mid ninety’s, the International Comanche Society began promoting a should harness STC after a prominent member died from impact to the panel.  This is a very important upgrade that every aircraft should have regardless of age.  It was a simple install and has given me peace of mind ever since.

Monday, July 28th, 2008

Back in 1976, August 1 actually, the owners saw fit to add factory re-manufactured engines to N7182Y.  At the same time, they installed on the right side, a counter-rotating engine.  The official designation from lycoming is LIO-320-B1A.  This of course eliminated the critical engine effect.  Critical engine is defined as the engine that if failed, [...]

The propeller

Saturday, July 26th, 2008

Both props were overhauled in 1997 along with the engines.  They have a nitrogen  accumulator which allows full feathering to reduce drag.  One thing you will notice from the picture is the long extension from the prop hub to the crankshaft.  This gives the cowling a more streamlined look but creates heavy forces.  Power-on stalls [...]

Saturday, July 26th, 2008

One of Lycoming’s best.  Dependable and easy.  Both engines were overhauled in 1997 by me with the extensive help of the engine overhaul shop right next to my hangar.  I finished A&P school and was facing the AD on the oil pump impellers being replaced.  The engine time was in the 1800′s so I decided [...]
