STC#SA180650-Small Nose Wheel Tire

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

The Twin Comanche is a little tricky to land.  Some believe that adding a smaller nose wheel gave you that extra inch of clearance to help out with the flare.  Not sure I believe it helps but here it is… another modification.  Added 10-03-1990

STC#SA693CE-Brackett Air Filters

STC#SA00735AT-Composite Spinner

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

The orginal aluminum spinners are prone to cracking.  I remember flying one day and seeing the right spinner slightly bigger than the left!  I landed to find that the spinner had cracked and centrifugal force was slinging out the edge about two inches.  The composites are cheaper than the aluminum so it was a no [...]

STC#SA2549CE-Upper Door Latch

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

The Twin Comanche door has the latching mechanism just below the window.  During cruise flight it was common for the door to be pulled out slightly from the airflow suction.  This modification puts a simple latch near the top of the door to keep it pulled tight.  Makes for quieter and less drafty curise flight.  [...]

STC#SA516GL-Aileron, Flap, and Fuselage Gap Seals

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

This is a knots-2-U modification.  As the company name implies, its supposed to add knots by steamlining.  The gaps between the flaps and ailerons have a thin aluminum strip to create a smooth airflow.  Also around the engine cowlings are fiberglass fairings to streamline the transition to the wings.

Something I never think about on the Twin Comache until I was in some else’s Twin Comanche witht the original widnow.  The visibility is greatly enhanced.  The modification cuts away about 6 inches of the fuselage top.

STC#SA00160SE-Modified Instrument Panel per Ron and John’s Comanche Service

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

Only pictures can describe this monumental transformation.  The original Twin Comanche panel was great for the time but I wanted to had a standard layout of the six flight gauges.  I promise to had before and after pictures to show you the difference.  This modification took almost a month.  Probably close to two weeks of [...]

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

Insight Graphic Engine Monitor Model 1200 The Insight engine monitor was added during the panel upgrade.  After a few months of using it I was thinking that I really hadn’t needed it.  Until one day I was taking off and noticed my fuel flow had dropped off considerably on the left engine.  Power was the [...]

STC#SA00484WI-Front Seat Shoulder Harness

Monday, July 28th, 2008

Back in the mid ninety’s, the International Comanche Society began promoting a should harness STC after a prominent member died from impact to the panel.  This is a very important upgrade that every aircraft should have regardless of age.  It was a simple install and has given me peace of mind ever since.
