The Twin Comanche is a little tricky to land. Some believe that adding a smaller nose wheel gave you that extra inch of clearance to help out with the flare. Not sure I believe it helps but here it is… another modification. Added 10-03-1990

The battery is located aft of the baggage compartment. Getting in there was a pain removing all the screws. This modification added quick quarter turn fasteners to make access the baterry fast and easy. Also aft of the baggage area is the stormscope control box and the ELT.

Like most of the general aviation fleet, Brackett Filters has the Twin Comanche covered. Getting rid of the paper filters and adding those black sticky ones is a simple modification.

The orginal aluminum spinners are prone to cracking. I remember flying one day and seeing the right spinner slightly bigger than the left! The Twin Comanche door has the latching mechanism just below the window. During cruise flight it was common for the door to be pulled out slightly from the airflow suction. This modification puts a simple latch near the top of the door to keep it pulled tight. Makes for quieter and less drafty curise flight. [...]

This is a knots-2-U modification. As the company name implies, its supposed to add knots by steamlining. The gaps between the flaps and ailerons have a thin aluminum strip to create a smooth airflow. Also around the engine cowlings are fiberglass fairings to streamline the transition to the wings.

Something I never think about on the Twin Comache until I was in some else’s Twin Comanche witht the original widnow. The visibility is greatly enhanced. The modification cuts away about 6 inches of the fuselage top.

Back in the mid ninety’s, the International Comanche Society began promoting a should harness STC after a prominent member died from impact to the panel. This is a very important upgrade that every aircraft should have regardless of age. It was a simple install and has given me peace of mind ever since.
